From our experience, three days on the island should be just enough to see all the main highlights and relax on the beaches. During these three days, you can explore the stunning coral reefs while snorkeling or diving, hike to the island's scenic viewpoints, and enjoy the vibrant nightlife.

Additionally, you'll have time to visit Sairee Beach, take a boat tour around the island, and try some local cuisine.

If you're looking for a more leisurely pace or want to delve deeper into the island's offerings, consider extending your stay to 4 or 5 days.

How long is a ferry ride from Koh Tao to Bangkok?

A combined ferry and bus ride from Koh Tao to Bangkok lasts approximately 10-15 hours. The total travel time depends on the company you choose, traffic conditions, and the time of year.

Typically, the ferry ride from Koh Tao to the mainland (Chumphon or Surat Thani) takes about 2-3 hours. After reaching the mainland, the bus journey to Bangkok can take an additional 8-12 hours, depending on traffic and the specific route taken.

During peak tourist seasons (November to January), travel times may be longer due to increased demand and traffic. It's advisable to book your tickets in advance to secure your spot and potentially reduce waiting times.

We advise opting for an overnight ferry because you’ll have plenty of time to sleep and save on accommodation.

Booking tickets in advance is recommended, especially during peak tourist seasons (from November to January). Additionally, pack some essentials in your carry-on, such as a travel pillow, snacks, and a light blanket, as ferry cabins can be quite chilly.

Arriving at the ferry terminal at least an hour before departure will ensure a smooth boarding process. If you are prone to seasickness, consider taking motion sickness tablets beforehand.
